Desk: Before & After

A few weeks ago, I was out browsing some local antique shops when I spied a desk for $12. It's very difficult to find a solid wood desk for that price in these neck of the woods.

I got out my trusty sander and got to work.

I stained the top a dark walnut {Minwax}.

It was kind of chilly in the garage, so I decided to move the desk indoors {yes, that is my living room} to finish it up. I was using a home-made chalk paint {experiment} concoction, and the smell was very minimal.

And there she is...in antique white.

I decided to have some fun with the drawers and painted them a light aqua blue.

I've been working on making this little corner into my "office", so I'll be posting some more pictures of that process soon!

I've also been working on a fun little project today. I will share it with you next week, but I'll give you a hint as to what it includes: pallets, Pottery Barn, and paint. Here's a sneak peek:

  1. What a great find! I love that you left the top wood. I am looking for a buffet to do something similar with. Yours turned out beautiful!
How did you like the homemade chalk paint? I haven't tried the regular chalk paint because I am too cheap :)

    1. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet compliments! I have been searching for a buffet too! They are so hard to find! I absolutely love the homemade chalk paint! I don't know if I will ever go back because it is expensive and the homemade is just as good. I'm going to write a post soon on how I made mine :0)

  2. Emily, I love it! I'm especially envious of your trusty sander! I need one. I love the blue accents and the gorgeous wood grain you left on the desk top. I could think of so many lovely things to write at this desk. Well done!

    1. Thank you, Christene! A good sander is a luxury. Most projects are doable without one, but you better have a strong arm! :0) Thank you for stopping by.
