Putting Down Roots: Antiquing Glaze: what every DIY girl should have

A few weeks ago, I was reading some of my favorite blogs, and I came across a sweet tutorial on antique glaze by Kristi at The Speckled Dog. Here are some of the projects she has done with the glaze:

After reading her tutorial, I decided to try some myself. I used Valspar Antiquing Glaze in Asphaltum (black).

My first project didn't go so well :(.

There were two problems: 1) I was trying to be frugal and only bought the "pre-tinted tester" of Martha Stewart's paint in Sea Glass. After being a professional painter for several years, my hubby is somewhat of a paint snob, and he thinks (knows) that my project started peeling because not only was it just a tester, but also because it was Martha Stewart paint ("She has paint now???" - Jeff). He is a Sherwin Williams guy. Anyways, problem #2) I was in a rush to try out the awesome glaze and I didn't wait the prescribed 3 hours of drying time in between coats, nor did I allow the 24 hours before glazing. Lesson learned!
