Our guest room was in major need of...everything. It was just serving as a storage room for all the leftover boxes from our move. However, with several people coming into town in the month of July, we needed to transform it into a guest bedroom. In an effort to save money, I tried to use things that we already had around the house.
Better Homes and Gardens is decidedly my favorite magazine - it's the only magazine to which I subscribe {besides free ones, of course!}. {On a side note, I now get the BHG magazines for free because I saved my Coke Rewards points for a couple of months and redeemed them for the subscription...easy peasy.} I think BHG has the perfect blend of decorating and organizing ideas, health tips, and meal plans. In the November 2010 issue, there was an article called "guest services" that I thought was fantastic, so I clipped the article and tucked it away in my scrapbook of ideas for when we had a house. One of the ideas was to label a dresser drawer {full of travel size toiletries} for the guest.
Please pardon the ugly dresser. That one is one of three that I need to refinish. {but it was free, so I can't complain}
...And the curtains. It's a long story, but the short version is that the curtain rod {that you can't really see in this picture} was made out of a flag pole that I found at a garage sale for 50 cents. I sanded it down and stained it. The curtains were on sale at J C Penny for $2.97/each.
And that's as far as I've gotten with the guestroom. I'm trying to decide what color to paint the dresser...
hey, you're pretty impressive. i looove making old things new again, and making the best with what you have and scoring deals. you seem to have a knack for it. i am currently deciding what color to paint an old dresser of mine. i think some kind of sage/olive green would look good in that room, but that is also what i am thinking of painting my old dresser :).
