Some Things Are Meant to Change

In case there is anyone out there who still stops by to read my blog...I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. I am alive and well. I'm just taking some time to prioritize a few things in my life. I love doing projects that help turn our house into a home and blogging about it, but sometimes other things are simply more important.

Disclaimer: I'm going to try to be transparent here for the sole hope that it will be an encouragement to you. I'm a straightforward type of person (a choleric/melancholy, for those of you who understand the 4 personality types), so I just want to be clear with my intentions so I (hopefully) won't  be offensive. Capishe? So, don't get put out...that would be silly.

Little known fact about me: I am a dreamer. No, that does not mean that I live - or want to live - in a fairytale world. It means that I know that the typical steps in life can be so much more than making good grades, getting a college degree, finding a secure job (that's almost a joke nowadays),  raising good kids, and teaching them to follow the same broken cycle.  I'm beginning to see that if I want to change my circumstances, then I need to first change myself.  I need to live intentionally for excellence.

I don't want to sit back and say "oh well! This is the life I was given, so I guess I need to be happy with it because there is nothing I can about it" because that is laziness, not contentment!

I'm learning that I should be happy with WHERE I am, but not with WHO I am!

I guarantee you that once you begin to expand your thinking by reading good books and putting good information and truth into your head, then you will start to change, and so will your circumstances (or your view of them). It certainly has for me.  I am no where near where I need to be, but I see more clearly now where I need to go. God has given us amazing resources in books and godly examples, and I am ashamed that I haven't taken better advantage of them until now! I now have a huge list of good books and CD's. It's amazing how quickly and earnestly you can read books when you aren't forced (college sadly nearly ruined my love of reading).

The last couple of years, I felt "stuck." It seemed that my circumstances were the reason why none of my goals and aspirations were coming to fruition. But I was wrong. It wasn't my circumstances...it was (is) me.
I'm not trying to say that I have discovered the solution to all of life's problems. I am simply saying that you (I) don't know what you (I) don't know. If nothing else I say makes sense or rings true in your own life remember that you don't know what you don't know. So, if you're still reading this, please....
...Expand your thinking.
...Be hungry.
...And most of all, be encouraged.

So, remember that dream/goal/desire you had way back when? Take some time to refresh your memory! Pursue it! Break it down and write out all the intermediate little steps that would need to happen in order to reach your goal. (Maybe one of those little steps is turning off the TV? [gasp]). Short term sacrifice for long term gain! Let's practice some delayed gratification.

And remember....

  1. Hi Emily! I had no idea you blogged! Thanks for all the encouragement in this post, especially the bit on breaking down your dreams. That's always the hardest part for me for some reason. :P

Looking forward to seeing you again in a few months, Lord Willing!
