Labor Day Weekend + My Fall Mantle

I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend! Jeff and I really had a great long weekend...we were able to relax, spend some quality time together, eat lots of food with great friends, {check out Marybeth's post here to catch a glimpse of our dining room} go to a birthday party, and get lots done around the house. I love it when that happens.

This is our second Labor Day in Oklahoma, but it is still a shock to be ringing in September with 100+ degree weather!

As I mentioned in my previous post, I've been working on a few projects since we moved, and I wanted to share them with you! I was able to wrap up a few things over the weekend and snap some pictures.

I had something completely different in mind for my autumn sign, but when I discovered that I absolutely could not paint a straight line to save my life, I resorted to the shortest phrase I could think of...hence "pumpkin patch" {arrow}. What.ever.

I made the bunting out of the original velvet fabric from my couch. I had saved it because I couldn't decide if it was cool vintage or just ugly. I think in small doses it comes off as vintage, don't you think? The colors are very muted and autumn-ish.

Remember this picture from my last post?

I was making these...

I dressed up 5 windows with these drop cloth curtains. I followed Miss Mustard Seed's tutorial for prepping drop cloths for sewing projects {click here} and her tutorial for easy curtains {see here}. The hardest part was bleaching and ironing them! Overall....So easy. So cheap. So neutral.

I will have to put together a post soon on all the awesome things you can do with drop cloths. Would you like that? I am hooked.

And this beauty got glued, sanded, and waxed.

Our entry way is kind of long and narrow, so I was struggling with how to dress it up. We decided to do a shelf at sofa/entry table height. I was going for a rustic/industrial/Pottery Barn style. It's not completely done, but here is a quick snapshot...

I beat the heck out of the poor board. Jeff thinks I may have overdone it. Haha! Oh well. I'll post another picture once I have had a chance to style it.

This is a record, folks. I have never decorated for fall this early. It's not like the weather has gotten me in the mood! I was pouring sweat as I rolled that log from the backyard...and it's not because it's all that heavy. I still need to make a wreath. The mood hasn't hit though.

So, what did you do over the weekend?

  1. I love the mantel and the drapes. Your blog is so refreshing to me I love it. I can't tell you how envious I am over your church pew, I have been looking for one for years. The problem is everyone I find is too expensive for me. I am glad you have one though.

    1. Thank you so much! I sometimes feel guilty for being given that pew. I had also been looking for one for a long time, and couldn't find one. Just keep your eyes open...you will eventually find one. Thank you for being happy for me! :)
