I don't know about you all, but I can let comparison steal my joy way too easily. With the internet, it's really easy to sit at home on my computer and drool over everyone else's life via Facebook, blogs, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. I'm learning that it takes a conscious effort of focusing on the good in my life in order for me not to subconsciously dwell on {aka "envy"} the good in everyone else's life that I feel I could never have. In essence, I'm working on contentment.
Although I'm working on contentment in my life, I still have big dreams for the future {contentment doesn't mean laying your dreams aside!}. Sometimes comparison can not only steal my joy, but it can also steal my motivation for achieving my dreams and ambitions because I get all down and gloomy about everything I don't have! Comparison is a strength sapper!
So...
Today I will choose to think positively!
Today I will choose to keep my dreams in front of me and work towards my goals!

Love it, love you
ReplyDeleteHey Emily!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this post . . . and I hope it's okay with you if I link to it from my blog. I'd been planning to write on a similar topic for several days now, and so will hopefully link yours when I publish.
Thanks!
This is so true, I OFTEN find myself doing the same thing. The thing is, w/ facebook etc it's REALLY easy to make it "look" like you have the PERFECT life. Of course, if you're ranting and raving about how IMperfect it is, then that is a huge problem too! I agree it totally takes CONSCIOUS effort to be grateful for all the blessings in my OWN life. . . . . . and if it makes you feel any better I completely envy your beautiful home and all your projects that you're working on- it's something I would love to do! Probably not going to happen (ever) or at least for a very long time (I'm thinking the day we become empty nesters LOL) :P I have resigned myself to just enjoy where I am at and my circumstances instead of wishing I could have what everyone else has LOL
